PERRYWOOD 0

lichfield city were outstanding in there mid com division 2 game against Worcester side perrywood a side tipped for promotion this season, right from the start of the game lichfield took the game to perrywood and played some excellent football,"i was pleased with the lads today,we worked hard and made life very difficult for perrywood, young wingers Tom Evans and James Russell were giving there defence an awful time with some of the best attacking football Ive seen off these two lads the only thing we lacked first half was the goal to settle us down".it should have been perrywood that went in a goal up at half time when Matt Clay gave away a needless penalty with a reckless challenge in the area but keeper Dan Edwards produced a superb double save after diving to his right hand side to produce the penalty save then somehow also managed to keep out the rebound as well."Dans penalty save was the turning point for us,clays inexperience in defence showed today after a reckless lunge gifted perrywood with a great chance on half time but Edwards agility showed why hes one of the best keepers at this level in the area"
second half was the same for us we continued to press straight from the off and were rewarded when a superb run and cross from Evans landed at the feet of prolific city scorer dutton and he made no mistake frm 5 yrds out to put city 1-0 up.
the game could have been levelled on 60minutes when perrywood were awarded another penalty after substitute deeley was alleged to have handled on the line and was shown a red card"deeleys handball was a hard one to call, the ball had been whipped in from a corner and perrywoods forward had struck the ball hard and well towards the goal, deeley was on a post and to me the ball struck his shoulder but it was hit that fast it was impossible to see where the ball struck him and a decision was made from the ref that it was handball after a loud appeal from the perrywood players, but thats what the refs there for to make the call and it was a massive call to make especially with a red card as well"once again Dan Edwards was the hero with another superb save from the penalty this time diving to his left and not only saving the penalty but holding onto the ball as well.
a superb game and excellent 3points for lichfield city.
"personally I'm pleased with the performance of the lads and the result, perrywood are one of the favorites this season and i can see why they are a close knit side who work hard for each other,i don't think many sides will take points off them this season, having said that I'm pleased with the current squad that i have, were a young side but the lads are soaking up everything that is being drilled into them, its still the time of the season where we have players away with holidays etc and may not be able to field the same side for another few weeks yet but as long as the players chosen keep putting in performances like that then ill be happy,we have a massive game bank holiday Monday against bromsgrove a side that have a big playing budget and a lot of experience in there ranks but as far as I'm concerned there there to be took down and we will do our very best to take the 3 points from them.
