On arrival our disbelief at the size of the pitch from both coaches and parents was heavily discussed. It would appear that Brereton had crammed their entire pitch into what we normally expect to play as half a pitch, however ping pong, over the top pinball football suits some but not the Vikings and we knew before the off that we would struggle………………and we did!!
Not taking anything away from Brereton, they battled hard to give themselves a tidy one goal lead at half time and two quick goals early in the second (one an own goal) gifting them a three goal lead and plunged Vikings into the depths of unknown territory.
Vikings were never really able to capitalise on a downhill advantage but still managed to pull it back to 3-2 giving the travelling supporters something to pull them away from their huddled discussions about what they had been up to and to cheer the lads on for last five minutes.
Vikings missed several chances to take the lead and opportunities to win the match, Brereton came out tops in the ping pong battle bagging another two goals (another own goal) Vikings could only respond with one more, the final score 5-4 gave victory to Brereton Town.
Vikings goals came from Dixon, Caine, Court and Stanley finally bagged one with his new boots.
Player of the match was Daniel Goodwin.
